Stories from the Glen
Hear from visitors, retreat participants, and those whose lives have been touched by Durward's Glen.
My grandma used to bring me here when I was a child and it was a very Holy and special place for me even as a young one. I didn't grow up Catholic, no one in my family did so when I was able to visit, I can recall just knowing there was something special and wonderful about the Catholic religion. In 2010, after a trip to Ireland, I made the decision to convert to Catholicism. The Glen has always been in my heart and as I look back over my life I can see how the Catholic faith was just right there waiting! I couldn't wait to bring my family to visit the grounds and show them how peaceful and spiritual the Glen is. I'm beyond grateful I can return any time now to be closer to God, my good memories of my childhood, and just to be able to spend time with our Lord. It's one of a few places when I visit I undoubtedly feel the real life presence of Him.

I stayed at Durward's with my wife and toddler. We hoped to explore the hills of Wisconsin and have some pleasant family time for the New Year. The cabin at Durward's was, without reservation, the perfect place to stay. Built in 1873, the cabin brings you back to an Ingalls-esque Wisconsin. We explored the surrounding trails and forests, and also got to know the beautiful surrounding community of Baraboo / Merrimac. Without any doubt, my family and I will return!

We loved our stay here! The hosts initially warned us the house may not be the most kid-friendly (we have a 4 yo and 20 mo). However, the house is absolutely magical, the grounds are so beautiful and peaceful, and we had a blast! We're already planning our next stay :) The grounds felt very sacred and were beautiful to explore. We loved hearing the creek run by and used the fire pit one night to make smores. The front porch is perfect for picnicking and playing instruments in the midst of nature :) We loved the limited access to the outside world (no tv, limited cell service, no WiFi). Our days were spent out and about— Circus World museum was a ton of fun for our family and Devil's Lake the next day. The house was cozy and such a respite to return to at night. Can't recommend this place enough! Such a unique stay!

LOVED the incredibly peaceful, quiet hermitage.. I'm not religious, yet felt in awe of the comfortable simplicity of the space and grounds. It's a fantastic spot to jump off to Baraboo things. Grateful to be renewed here and will be back!
